Email-Lingo: "Catch-All"

You're probably losing important Emails,
that you don't even know you're losing.......

Did you know that you can create Email address aliases on the fly at
any time with your domain name, and have them all point to one of your
main POP accounts? It's called: a "Catch-All"

BTW,
An Email alias is an address that forwards to another Email account.
A POP account, is an Email address which can be checked with a password.

Now, back to this "Catch-All" thing. Every website hosting provider
IS or should be able to provide you with what I call, a "Catch-All"
so that all Email sent to your domain, mis-directed by accident or on
purpose, is sent to your main POP account. It's very basic, but most
folks don't know this power exists, and usually fail to ask for it.

For example, with this list, List-Tips, I have my POP account setup as
listtips@sparknet.net. ANYTHING sent to my domain: list-tips.com or
listtips.com, ALL forwards to listtips@sparknet.net.

Can you see the power this can give you, not to mention the peace of
mind knowing that you will never lose another piece of Email, because
someone didn't know how to spell your email address right, assuming they
got your domain name right.

Just last night, I went looking for cross sponsorship opportunities to
help build this list, and I sent an Email to the Sift Ad-Exchange list.
In it, I made up an address on the fly, called: swap@list-tips.com
which I know will forward to me here at listtips@sparknet.net (which is
an address I've shared with no one, nor did I intend to share it,
except in this example to illustrate the point.)

It is not the responsibility of the outside world to figure out or
remember your Email address, so make it easy on them, and setup a
'catch-all' for your domain name.

One last example:

Let's suppose my Email address is: chris@list-tips.com

With a 'catch-all' setup, as long as you got my domain right, I've
seen folks over the past two years, mis-interpret my simple chris@
address with the following:

christopher@
cknight@
chrisk@
knight@
knightc@
kris@
night@
cris@
chris.knight@
c.knight@
christopher.k@
christopher.kngith@

How many folks are messing up your Email address right now?

(for those who already have catch-alls setup,
you're ahead of the game, congratulations. :)
